Include a gift in your Will
A gift in your Will could make a major breakthrough. Leaving a gift to the Alzheimer's Research Trust in your Will today could bring hope to thousands tomorrow.
Legacies are a key source of funds for the Alzheimer's Research Trust - they support over a third of our crucial work. Alzheimer's research is desperately under-funded and yet vital if we are to combat the disease and protect future generations from the devastation of dementia. Your legacy, large or small, could be an essential part of enabling us to continue vital research and initiate long-term projects.
For example, a generous gift of £50,000 from the Will of Reverend David Williams helped us to launch a major research programme into Alzheimer's disease. His gift has enabled researchers to see whether something as simple as oily fish could help slow the progression of Alzheimer's and lead to new treatments.
Other legacies, like the £2,858 which we received from the estate of Dorothy Winifred Ross, have helped us to secure some of the country's best young scientists for our PhD programme - enabling important research to be done now and training the top dementia scientists of the future.
Here's what your legacy could help us achieve:
£600 could train two scientists to use specialist software to accelerate the progress of their research.
£5,000 provides vital chemical compounds enabling a project to investigate possible treatments for dementia.
£22,000 could fund all the brain scans for two projects for a whole year - helping us to understand how Alzheimer's affects the brain and to find ways of halting it.
£66,250 supports a talented young scientist for three years - enabling real progress to be made in the search for an answer to Alzheimer's and related diseases.
£500,000 funds a major research programme for five years - making significant and possibly momentous progress towards new treatments or ways to prevent dementia.
"My mother, an Alzheimer's sufferer, used to be as sharp as a razor and great fun to be with. If research can lead to a treatment it would be a major breakthrough. I don't have a lot to leave - so there won't be any tax benefit to my estate - but I hope that I will still be able to make a difference."
